Reformer Pilates classes

Small classes on purpose, so you never feel like just another body in the room, with teaching that sees what you need and adapts as you go. Clear cueing that gets to the why behind every exercise, without the science lecture.

What is reformer Pilates?

The reformer is a sliding carriage on springs, with a footbar and adjustable straps that add resistance to the movement. The springs can be set lighter or heavier, so the same exercise can feel completely different depending on the set-up.

It's particularly good for core control, posture and balance, because the moving carriage asks the smaller stabilising muscles to work the whole time. Most classes work the whole body, blending control, mobility and a lot of work for your core rather than one muscle at a time. You'll feel muscles you didn't know you had, in a good way.

What's the difference between Fox Fundamentals and Fox Signature?

Fundamentals teaches the patterns, Signature explores them. Signature moves a little faster, with deeper sequencing and more options to challenge you. Fundamentals has fewer layers, a slower pace and more time for detail.

Do I need to do Fox Fundamentals before Fox Signature?

No. You don't need a certain number of classes to unlock Signature, and it's really up to you. We'd recommend Fundamentals if you've never done reformer before or you've had a long break. If you've done 5 or more recent classes at another studio, Signature will be fine, though the cueing might take a class to get used to. Not sure? Ask us, we love that chat.

I'm completely new to Pilates. Where should I start?

Fox Fundamentals is made for you. We'll break down the core Pilates principles so you can build real awareness in your body, then take time with the essential exercises so you can feel what you're doing. Over time the shapes and patterns repeat and everything clicks into place. We all started somewhere.

Can I drop in for a single class?

Yes, a drop-in class is £30. Most regulars find a pack or a membership better value. See all our prices.

I'm pregnant. Which class should I book?

If you're already coming to class, Fox Signature is a great continuation until your third trimester (from week 28), and after that our slower Fox Fundamentals classes, where we'll adapt exercises as you go. If you're new to reformer, please start before week 28, with Fox Fundamentals or a private session. From the third trimester lying on your back isn't recommended, and someone completely new needs more support than we can give in a class to keep them safe. Either way, please let your teacher know before class starts.

How hard is it?

Fundamental doesn't mean easy, and the more body aware you become, the harder Pilates gets. But this isn't about feeling wrecked. No "pain is progress" here. In Signature, the challenge really is up to you: we'll offer options, and if we think your body can go there, we'll go there with you. Zero pressure.
